PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absoulte Poker Seized by US Government

FBI has seized three of the biggest Online Poker Rooms today claiming that they have been operating illegally.

Full Tilt Poker, Pokerstars and Absolute Poker have all had their domains seized, 5 in total, and a freeze has been placed on 76 bank accounts across 14 countries. Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, charges the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, as well as nine other individuals, accusing them of operating illegal gambling businesses.

Not only is PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absolute Poker facing criminal charges, a $3 Billion civil case has been filed against them. This is sure to be a long ongoing case that will not see any results in the near future.

What does this mean for you, the player, the good news is your bankroll is safe and is not going anywhere. If you play outside the US then it's business as usual and you can continue playing Online Poker. With the US players currently out of action it appears to have lowered the level of competition allowing for some of the newer players to earn a bit of cash.

  1. Thanks for your comment on my blog post "Nanny of the Week". My conclusion to this;

    I get the feel that Online Gambling could develop into the debate of the 21st century “internet era” for the US, like the abortion debate is to the women rights movement.

    You can do things, but not all things – when we ‘conservatives’ say so.
